Weekend One: Understanding your Horse.
This weekend will enable you to better understand the difference between when your horse is stiff, has strained a muscle or when your horse is musculoskeletaly hurt. There will also be a demonstration to explain how your horse and his movement work in conjunction to his conformation. This weekend consists of 3 modules including behavioural study, understanding pain, an anatomy dissection and study of equine movement.
Weekend Two: Understanding the muscles of the horse.
This weekend consists of 5 modules including the explanation of muscles injury, ergonomics, massage , stretching and suppling exercises to use while you ride as well as on the ground. It will enable you to do maintenance work on your own horse. It will not qualify you as any kind of therapist.
Weekend Three: Understanding your therapist
This weekend consists of 5 modules, these are: understanding your dentist, vet, farrier, physiotherapist and saddle fitter. This course enables you to have an educated opinion of the work done on your horses and it enables you to check that the professional you employ is doing their work properly.
Weekend Four: Manual techniques.
This weekend is open to qualified physiotherapists only. This course will demonstrate various treatment techniques and modalities used in the treatment of the equine athlete.
Weekend Five: The ultimate horse and Rider.
This is a 3 day weekend course which includes a full analysis of you and your horse as movement assessments ridden and in free movement. You and your horse will be treated for any pain or movement restriction by qualified physiotherapists and you will both be given exercises to do individually and together. You will be taught breathing and relaxation techniques and will be helped to communicate more effectively with your horse.
The weekends will range from R2500 to R3500 with discounts available for multiple courses attended.
The lecturers of this course are all qualified professionals in their respective fields. This course will not give you any kind of a qualification. CPD points will be applied for.
The course is subject to a minimum of 8 participants.
